Photonics
The fibre-optics industry demands the highest standards of quality and precision control, for challenges like active alignment and bonding delicate components in telecommunications equipment.
Where precise positioning of optical components is crucial, adhesives and epoxies are used in the fiber-optic assembly industry. UV curables simplify operations by tacking parts with UV and transporting them to a site for thermal curing or curing to a final assembly stage with UV. This allows flow through the production process and shortening time of manufacture.
Various benefits of UV curing include; active alignment, speed for increased throughput, precision for active alignment, control for multi-phased cures, and repeatability for quality assurance.

EXFO has tailor made their existing technologies by introducing the "StepCure™" software to present custom solutions for this most demanding of production arenas. The StepCure™ software permits the end user to structure proprietary cure profiles to meet Bellcore standards. By providing up to 4 different UV irradiance levels, this process minimizes shrinkage to give reliable cures in the shortest possible time. Controlling intensity levels during the exposure cycle can provide for the control of physical characteristics of polymerised material ideal for fibre-optic applications. The process ensures complete polymerisations to prevent post cure material changes and outgassing.
